As you can imagine it was incredibly traumatic at the time. I have never seen such severe injuries inflicted by another cat. I doubt Brutus could have withstood a third attack. You are absolutely right about Whitey. He is a wild alpha male, and I don't think he will ever change. I'm sure he'll adapt quickly. He's a born survivor. Meanwhile, Brutus is regaining his confidence, so all's well here, and I sincerely hope all's well for Whitey too. Dealing with Whitey had to be hard, but the truth is that he was not going to change. Rehoming him to the wild was a perfect solution. He is wild and will adapt quickly to his new life. I'm glad Brutus is going to be fine. He is very lucky to have caring parents. I have seen this alpha cat scenario before and have seen some heartbreaking outcomes. Whitey is too wild to change. I know, ...Thank you so much for reading my account. I know, our poor Brutus. He is just too placid to deal with the kind of attacks he sustained. I completely understand your comments, and for the reasons you give, we thought very long and hard about what to do. We eventually relocated Whitey to an extremely remote area. Lots of woodland with a small river flowing through, which we felt would suit him/his temperament. There were no houses that we could see for miles. The location is the far side of the Garonne River so we think it is highly unlikely that he will manage to return. That said - you never know! I wonder whether he will eventually return to your area; cats have been known to come much farther than that to get "home"!River Rathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09676250539933017098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1088569481172114554.post-9696306983934066322017-12-03T01:01:57.544-08:002017-12-03T01:01:57.544-08:00Honestly, Ali, it was dreadful at the time. You're absolutely right about the animal-loving instinct to do right by all animals. In this case we honestly feel we took the correct action. Brutus is almost back to normal, and Whitey, I'm sure, is working hard to develop his new kingdom! I hope Whitey is doing well in his new woodland area. As animal lovers, we want to help any stray soul who wanders our way. It's difficult to turn our backs on an animal. I'm sure Whitey is king of his territory now though!
